Exposing Myself

I recently talked about my childhood stories that sound fake but are true. I exposed myself for being an overreactor and a sleepwalker who moves furniture. Today, I’m going to be exposing all the things about me that I hate talking about because it shows how inept I am! Yeah! Let’s go!

exposing myself by showing a screen shot of a Buzzfeed post I shared about not being able to ride a bike
My family ocassionaly has a laugh over my inability to ride a bike.

First, I can’t ride a bike. I tried, you know. I have a vivid memory of fourth grade and my mom trying to teach me. My class was having a fieldtrip where we rode bikes and I didn’t want to be the odd one out. A whole weekend of trying to ride and my mom yelling and me crying didn’t go as planned. I got to the fieldtrip with my purple bike and started riding. For one second before I lost my balance. The teacher that was at the back of the group saw me struggling and let me ride in the park rangers car. That wasn’t embarrassing at all! I think the reason I don’t like bikes is because I don’t like feeling not in control of my body. I want my feet to be planted on the ground. Normalize adults having training wheels!

Another normal skill I can’t do is swim! I’m scared of drowning, and, well, everything. The water scares me in the sense that it goes on forever. Pools are cool, though. I just don’t tread the water. I love being 21 and not using a diving board! Similar to the bike thing, I want to be in control of my body. I also don’t like roller skating, skateboarding, or ice skating. I’m just buckets of fun, aren’t I?

I also don’t know how to drive. I know. This is the worst one on the list. I also tried. Every time I went out to practice with my parents I panicked. I’m terrified of making a mistake and something happening to me or the people around me. I know realistically that I need to drive and eventually I will need to get my license. Now it’s just a sensitive topic for me because my parents love to hold it against me. But, it’s my own fault.

Let’s stop talking about the things I can’t due before my computer malfunctions because of my tears. A random thing about me that my cousin Andrew likes to hold over my head is my fanfiction past. Anyone in to media has probably read fanfiction. I took it a step farther and wrote some. From the ages of 15 and 16 I wrote fanfiction for the Disney Channel show Austin & Ally. And you know what, I’m proud of it! I’m not the best writer ever and most teenagers don’t watch Disney Channel shows religiously but it was nice to hear, well, nice things about my writing. People really liked my stories and I liked getting feedback. So, Andrew, I exposed myself before you could expose me.

I could go on and on, exposing all of the embarrassing stuff about me but I’d rather stop here. I can only bully my self for so long at one time.

Favorite Songs That Aren’t Taylor Swift

Today we’re going to talk about some of my favorite songs! Since we already know that I love everything Taylor Swift, this list will exclude all of her songs. I’m picking one song per artist.

If I show you all my demons

And we dive into the deep end

Would we crash and burn like every time before?

Selena Gomez

It’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you

Everything I do

I tell you all the time

Heaven is a place on earth with you

Lana Del Rey

I’m in a field of dandelions

Wishing on every one that you’ll be mine, mine

And I see forever in your eyes

I feel okay when I see you smile, smile

Ruth B.

She said

Don’t walk away

Leave what we could be behind

Don’t leave me standing here

Don’t say not this time

  • Stay With me by R5 I’ve mentioned in posts (Top Ten TV Shows) that I loved Austin and Ally. The actor who played Austin had his own band with his siblings and this is my favorite song by them.

I’m sorry but I fell in love tonight

I didn’t mean to fall in love tonight

So far away but still so near

The lights come on, the music dies

But you don’t see me standing here

I just came to say goodbye

Calum Scott

I miss you pushing me close to the edge

I wish I knew what I had when I left

Zara Larsson

I know you’ve got the best intentions

Just trying to find the right words to say

I promise, I’ve already learned my lesson

But right now, I wanna be not okay

Katelyn Tarver
  • You Don’t Know by Katelyn Tarver I went through a phase where I loved the show Big Time Rush. Katelyn was an actress on the show and I fell in love with her music. This is one of her newest songs and it hits deep.

‘Cause people like you always want back what they can’t have

But I’m past that and you know that

Conan Gray
  • Maniac by Conan Gray This is the best song to just jam to. The lyrics and the beat just make me want to dance.

Then only for a minute

I want to change my mind

‘Cause this just don’t feel right to me

Marshmello ft. Bastille

So you say to me now

“I need nothing from nobody”

But I can see it on your face you’re hurting

Grab a hold of me

Dean Lewis
  • Hold Of Me by Dean Lewis Another way I find music is through TV shows. The first time I heard this song on some show, I knew I needed to download it.

If it doesn’t go away by the time I turn thirty

I made a mistake and I’ll tell you I’m sorry

Gracie Abrams

Ain’t nobody hurt you like I hurt you

But ain’t nobody love you like I do

Ed Sheeran

She’s dancing on your feet

With our song on repeat

She’s taking off her clothes

In the bed you kept me warm

Heard she’s everything I never was

Clara Mae
  • I’m Not Her Clara Mae I don’t remember how I found Clara Mae but I now love her. All of her songs are so good and she reminds me of a Swedish Taylor Swift

I’ll be your quiet afternoon crush

Be your violent overnight rush

Make you crazy over my touch

  • Supercut by Lorde And finally we have Lorde! Her album Melodrama is a masterpiece and Supercut is simply her best.

And those are some of my favorite songs! Do we have any of the same ones? Let me know!

Top Ten TV Couples

I’ve given you my Top Ten TV Shows, and now I have my top ten tv couples!

1.Chloe and Lucifer (Lucifer)

Oh how I love the devil and the detective together. These two have had a long journey the past five seasons and it has been worth it.

2. Anne and Gilbert (Anne With an E

There’s just something about a love story set in the late 1800’s. The academic rivals to friends to lovers? Immaculate.

3.Chuck and Blair (Gossip Girl)

My problematic faves! I admit that they have their issues. In fact, I wrote a paper about how toxic teen drama relationships are and used them as an example. But I loved them and still do despite everything.

4. Nick and Jess (New Girl)

Sitcom couples don’t usually serve as much as dramas. Nick and Jess are the exception. Their first kiss? Can’t be topped.

5. Seth and Summer (The OC)

The popular girl and the nerdy guy? It serves from time to time. He named his boat after her. It can not be beat. They were the highlight of that messy show.

6. Nathan and Haley (One Tree Hill)

A couple who gets married their junior year of high school? Doesn’t happen in TV shows any more. Probably because they know Nathan and Haley are the only two who can pull that off. Getting to watch them have kids and make a life together is just superior. They don’t make TV like this anymore.

7. Amy and Jonah (Superstore)

Another sitcom couple! They haven’t gotten their endgame yet and actually one half of the ship has left the show. So they’re not doing to get right now but they still have a special place in my heart.

8. Austin and Ally (Austin & Ally)

My top Disney channel couple. I love that the writers gave us the flash forward to prove that they are happily married with two children. They don’t make kid shows like it anymore. (Or maybe I’m just not the key demographic any more)

9. Jess and Rory (Gilmore Girls)

The only couple on this list, other than Amy and Jonah, which the show isn’t technically over yet, that isn’t end game. It hurts me to this day. The writers are evil for forcing Rory to become an idiot character and giving up Jess. They don’t deserve them.

10. Adrien and Marinette/ Ladybug and Cat Noir (Miraculous Ladybug)

Okay, I lied earlier. They do still make kid shows like it. The four way love ship of two characters? Absolutely perfect.

And those are my top ten favorite tv couples! Do we have any of the same ones? Let me know!

Top Ten Movies

The dance scene in the Cinderella Story movie

I did a top ten tv shows list. Now I have for you my top ten movies!

1.Cinderella Story

I have probably watched this movie more times than I have any other movie. I can quote it, I can picture the scenes in my head. My name is Sam and the guy I liked in the fifth grade was Austin. I could be living out my very own Cinderella Story.

Peter Kavinsky in the movie To All the Book's I've Loved Before

2.To All the Boy’s I’ve Loved Before

My love for this movie rivals Cinderella Story. I mean my favorite book being turned into a movie? Can’t get better than that! I will be waiting for Netflix to release the third movie.

The robbery scene in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's

3.Breakfast at Tiffany’s

In my Top Ten TV Shows post, I mentioned that Gossip Girl introduced me to Audrey Hepburn movies. Breakfast at Tiffany’s was the first Audrey movie I watched and my favorite. I became obsessed with the Tiffany’s jewelry store and that very shade of blue.

4.La La Land

The Mia and Sebastian dance scene in the La La Land movie

My mom and I saw this in theatres four times. Everything from the music to the directing to the acting. The soundtrack still comes on shuffle four years later. The ending? A masterpiece.

The air port scene in the Love Rosie Movie

5.Love Rosie

Taylor Swift in the Miss Americana movie

A friends to lovers romance spanning almost thirty years? Pure art. It kick started my love of Sam Claflin and his beautiful face. Also we love a British accent.

6.Miss. Americana

Does a documentary about Taylor Swift count as a movie? To me, yes. It makes me cry, laugh and smile.

7.The Duff

Homecoming scene in the movie The Duff

They hadn’t made any good teen movies since the early 2000’s before this movie came out. And there haven’t been many since then. We need more teen movies that are good! It’s funny with out being vulgar or cringy and the romance is perfectly set up. What else can you ask for?

Ending scene in the Zootopia movie

I love Disney and Pixar movies. Sue me. Zootopia just makes me want a Bunny and a fox to be together. It also reminds me of my favorite show Lucifer.

Bryce realizing he likes Julie in the Flipped movie.

I’m thankful I saw this DVD in the clearance bin at Dollar General all those years ago. There’s something about the girl loving the boy, getting over the boy, then the boy loving the girl.

End scene in You've Got Mail movie.

10.You’ve got mail

The superior Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks movie!

And those are some of my favorite movies! Do we have similar faves? Let me know!

Let’s Talk Concerts

Everyone loves concerts! Do you remember your first concert? I don’t. Mine was apparently Keith Urban who came to our town to preform at FYE. He was just starting his career and I was a baby.

12 year old me at the Big Time Rush concert
This was taken on a Blackberry camera. Excuse the bad quality

The first concert I remember was at the high school in town. I do not remember the name of the singer but I know I got her to sign my CD.

Since then, I have been to many concerts that I remember and look back on fondly. I’m gonna list them!

14 year old me at a Taylor Swift concert
14 year old me was thriving
  • Big Time Rush (2011)– The year was 2011 and I was 12. My dad surprised me with tickets to see Big Time Rush, my boyband of choice, at the York fair. It was a great day singing Nothing Even Matters and Worldwide. I’ll always remember that night.
  • Taylor Swift Red Tour (2013)- The year I went to my first Taylor Swift concert with a twisted ankle! When I saw that Taylor was in Philly, I begged my dad to buy us tickets the day before, despite my hurt foot. 45 minutes before she was supposed to come out, a thunderstorm started and the concert was delayed. Dad and I waited with everyone else inside the building. Eventually, when it was all done, the show went on. And the show was awesome.
16 year old me at the Taylor Swift concert
16 year old me was thriving even more .
  • Ed Sheeran (2014)– After seeing Ed Sheeran open up for Taylor on the Red Tour, I fell in love with him. When I found out he was going to be close to me, I begged my dad to go. We went and, of course, it poured down rain before he came on but the concert still went on as scheduled. An A plus night.
  • Taylor Swift 1989 Tour (2015)– I saw the 1989 tour twice. Once with mom, another with dad. The perks of having divorced parents. My life peeked at the 1989 tour and I look back with nostalgia.
19 year old me at the Taylor Swift concert
19 year old me hasn’t been the same.
  • Scotty McCreery (2015)– My town fair always has people come perform. I never cared about that before but my friends wanted to go see Scotty McCreery so we went. It was a good concert but I mostly think about getting to spend the night with my friends. Nothing is better than a fun night with friends.
  • Selena Gomez Revival Tour (2016)– Oh the time I decided not to take the SAT so I could go to a concert! (Don’t worry, I did take the SAT eventually.) We went to the arena in DC and had nose bleed seats. The seats were so high it felt like we were tilting and one wrong move and we would plummet to our death.
  • Taylor Swift Reputation Tour (2018)– I saw the Reputation tour twice. Once with my great aunt Marcia, and then with my dad and second cousin Andrea and her friend. My life peeked for a second time at this concert and I’m thankful it’s available on Netflix to relive any time I want.

And those were the concerts I have been to in the last almost ten years! Have you been to any of these? Let me know!

Will I Ever Finish Writing What I Start?

Writing. It isn’t for everyone.

Ever since I was a kid I’ve loved making up and writing stories. I was that kid who talked to her self about people she made up. I still love making up stories in my head. In fact, I’ve probably started to write upwards of five separate books!

And that is my issue.

My pinterests boards for books I've started writing
Pinterest boards for books I haven’t finished

I’ve probably written over 50,000 words combined with all the stories I have started. I spend anywhere from a week to six months working on one story before moving on to the next one. I got pretty close to almost finishing one a few years ago but I stopped before I could.

I’m also not good with getting criticism for some things. Especially my writing that I am proud of. I would be terrified that I’d finish a book, publish it and everyone would hate it. I’d get bad reviews and the thing I was so proud of would be torn apart.

One day I want to go back and read through all of the stories I’ve written. Maybe I’ll feel a spark and have to finish the book. Or I’ll be destined to fill my google docs with half written stories.

I may not have finished writing a book, but I do talk about books a lot! Check it out here. Bookish Life

The Swift Life

Flashback to 2006. Life was easy. Simple. I was 7, my parents were still together and elementary school was easy. One morning on CMT, a music video for a brand new artist named Taylor Swift came on. From then on, my life changed

Now, that’s dramatic. My life did change though.

The biggest constant in my life has been Taylor Swift and her music. From being 8 listening to Love Story and 21 listening to Cardigan. I was known as the Taylor Swift girl in High School. In fact, I’ve been told by people I’m not even friends with that when they hear Taylor Swift they think of me.

I’ve been to five concerts (Let’s Talk Concerts), own multiple copies of all the CDs, and so much merch I can’t even remember what all I have.

I can go weeks at a time and the only artist I listen to is Taylor. She does have 8 albums so I’m not listening to same song over and over. Though I can also do that with some of my favorites.

The Swift Life is a great life!

Stories That Sound Fake But Are True

Today, I’m going to tell you two stories about me that sound like they would be the lie in two truths and a lie.

Do you ever have something happen to you that makes you think, “wow no one would believe this?” Yes? No? Well, it happens to me all the time.

The broken wrists

First, we’re gonna talk about the time I broke both of my wrists. Yes, both of them at one time. My dad did not like those medical bills.

The only picture I have to prove the broken wrist story
The only picture I have of my casts

It was Father’s Day, 2008. My parents had just separated back in March so it was the first Father’s Day with just me and my dad. We went to Gettysburg to look at the monuments. When we were looking for the name of my bunch of greats grandfather, I wasn’t paying attention and fell down three concrete steps head first, my wrists breaking my fall. I was in pain but I didn’t want to go to the hospital yet because I wanted to wait until I got to Cumberland, where my mom was.

Half way there, though, I was in so much discomfort that my dad stopped at the hospital in Hagerstown. When we got there I had to pee but on the account of my in pain wrists I couldn’t go by myself so my dad had to help me. I was only nine at the time, thankfully. While we were talking to the nurse to check in, I was so emotional that I told my mom over the phone that, “if I don’t make it I want you to know I love you.” They all told me I was being silly and that I wasn’t going to die. Yeah, I didn’t believe that at the time but since I’m writing this today I guess I did make it. So, summer 2008 was spent with purple and red, because they were out of pink, casts on my arms. Fun times.

Sleep walking stories

the dresser from the sleep walking stories
This is what the dresser looked like

When I was in elementary school, I went through a period of time where I moved in my sleep. Not just tossing and turning, no I tossed and turned my way out of bed. I have many stories of waking up and being in the dining room or hallway but the best one is when I moved a dresser. Yes, a dresser. I woke up in the middle of the night and realized I was standing up and holding my dresser that I managed to turn around. Not knowing what to do, I decided to just get back in bed and wait till morning.

When I did wake up, and try to flip the dresser around, I discovered that I couldn’t lift it. Now, to this day, even over ten years later, my mom jokes that I get super strength in my sleep and every time we move it should be in the middle of the night so I can carry the big things. Another time I woke up and I had my TV in my arms, lifting it off of the entertainment stand that was in my room. At the time, I had a box TV. What was wrong with me?

Do you believe me? Are the stories just too outrageous to be made up? My parents can testify that I always kept things interesting. Still do.

Does any one have any stories that sound fake but are true? Let me know! Gonna go move my book shelf in my sleep now!

Top Ten TV Shows

Today I am going to talk about TV shows. Ahhh, TV. One of my first loves and obsessions. I can track what was going on in my life by what TV shows I was obsessed with at the time. Let’s list some of them!

Joey from friends.

1. Friends

My obsession with Friends started when I was just a little girl. I was born in 99, well into the ten year run of the sitcom. My parents loved watching it so I was introduced to it young. I remember watching the season eight finale, when Rachel had her baby, live. I got the tenth season on DVD for Christmas when I was five or six. It will forever be my comfort sitcom.

Sonny from Sonny With a Chance

2. Sonny With a Chance

Ahhhh, Sonny With a Chance. My first Disney Channel obsession. And the first TV show to let me down. I’ll never forgive Demi Lovato for going to rehab and not filming season three. Now I’ll never know if Sonny and Chad got back together. Le sigh. I can still quote every episode. I had a problem as a ten year old.

3. Pretty Little Liars

The Pretty Little Liars reacting to a text

I remember the first time I watched Pretty Little Liars. It was the summer before sixth grade and I was home alone. I flipped through the channels and stopped on what was still ABC Family. I watched the latter half of season one and the premiere of season two. Loved it so much I made my dad buy me the first season on DVD. The first three seasons we everything to me. Sadly, the show got bad after awhile but I will forever hold the first seasons in my heart.

Ally hugging Austin in Austin and Ally

4. Austin & Ally

My second Disney channel obsession! The show reminds me a lot of Sonny With a Chance and it could be the reason I liked it at the beginning. But after a while it became it’s own thing and is another comfort show for me.

Blair Waldorf eating a macaron.

5. Gossip Girl

Now we have one of the biggest obsessions. I went to FYE and they had the first season on DVD. The show had already finished airing at the time. I watched the first season and loved it. At the time Netflix wasn’t as popular so I actually had to go out and buy the DVDs. The feeling of waiting for after school to go buy season three is one I’ll never forget. I love this show so much that I’ve visited most of the spots from the TV show when ever I go to NYC. It also got me into Audrey Hepburn and headbands.

Christi from Dance Moms.

6. Dance Moms

My reality TV love! This show makes me happy when I think about it because it was one I watched with my dad. We loved watching it on Saturday nights and making fun of the moms. My dad and I bound over our TV shows and this was one I’ll always have fond memories of.

7. New Girl

Nick, Winston and Schmidt from New Girl.

Another comedy! This is one that is similar to friends. A group of friends live together and experience life and love together. The characters are so well thought out and just amazingly acted. I put it on when ever I just want to relax. I love my comfort characters.

8. Miraculous: The Adventures of Ladybug and Catnoir

Lady bug and Cat Noir

Ah a cartoon that is surprisingly complex. I first heard about this show my freshman year of college. I was in French class and a girl was talking about this cartoon she watches that helps her with her French. It was on Netflix so I thought might as well give it a try. Though I watched it in English so it didn’t help my French but I did love the show. I can’t explain why but there’s something about teenagers being super heroes and saving Paris and having innocent crushes that makes me happy.

Anne hitting Gilbert with her Slate

9. Anne With an E

Now we have my late 1800’s characters. I sadly have never read the Anne of Green Gables show but when I saw this show on Netflix, I had to watch it. I made my Grandma watched it and she also loved it. That’s a glowing recommendation.

10. Lucifer

My current obsession! We love a show that manages to be about the devil but feel like a family drama. I could go on and on about the show but I’m tired and all that truly needs to be said is watch it.

Rory and Lorelai.

Honorable mention because as I was finishing this I forgot about one! I also love Gilmore Girls. I don’t love it as much any more because the Netflix revival ruined the show for me but I will always love Rory Gilmore for giving me inspiration to study.

And those were some of my favorite TV shows! Do we have any in common? Did I inspire you to watch one? Let me know!
