The Swift Life

Flashback to 2006. Life was easy. Simple. I was 7, my parents were still together and elementary school was easy. One morning on CMT, a music video for a brand new artist named Taylor Swift came on. From then on, my life changed

Now, that’s dramatic. My life did change though.

The biggest constant in my life has been Taylor Swift and her music. From being 8 listening to Love Story and 21 listening to Cardigan. I was known as the Taylor Swift girl in High School. In fact, I’ve been told by people I’m not even friends with that when they hear Taylor Swift they think of me.

I’ve been to five concerts (Let’s Talk Concerts), own multiple copies of all the CDs, and so much merch I can’t even remember what all I have.

I can go weeks at a time and the only artist I listen to is Taylor. She does have 8 albums so I’m not listening to same song over and over. Though I can also do that with some of my favorites.

The Swift Life is a great life!

Reader Confessions Tag

Today I am going to be doing a book/reader tag! This tag was created by the Unputdownable Books blog.

1.) Have you ever damaged a book?

By accident. I read my original copy of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han so many times the spine completely split in half. Besides that, I’ve cracked a few paperback spines but nothing major.

2.) Have you ever damaged a borrowed book?

No because I don’t tend to borrow any books.

3.) How long does it take you to read a book?

It depends. If a book is good and I have time, I can finish it in a few hours. If I’m not feeling it or busy with school it may take me a little longer. At one point in time, before college and responsibilities, I would start a new book every other day.

4.) Book that you haven’t finished?

This is hard because I actually DNF a lot. I’m a mood reader and if the book hasn’t made me feel any happy emotions I drop it. A controversial one would be the first Harry Potter book. I’ve tried to get into them but it just isn’t for me. #noreaderguilt.

5.) Hyped or popular books you didn’t like?

Harry Potter as showcased above. I actually don’t care for a lot of the popular adventure, fantasy, type series.

6.) Is there a book you wouldn’t tell anyone you were reading?

Wellllll I don’t think I’d hide the books I’m reading on purpose but sometimes I do hate when I get asked what I’m reading because of #readerguilt. I don’t want judgement that I’m not reading the great American novel.

7.) How many books do you own?

This is currently impossible to answer as I am at college and almost all my books are currently in bins waiting for the day I have my own place. I’d say maybe 200. Not including the many ebooks I own.

8.) Are you a fast or slow reader?

Both. Depending on what I have going on and if a book makes me not want to stop.

9.) Do you like to buddy read?

I’ve never tried it so not sure.

10.) If you were only allowed to own one book, what would it be and why?

Probably my signed copy of The Hating Game by Sally Thorne.

And that was the tag! Comment below if you have already done this or plan to!

Stories That Sound Fake But Are True

Today, I’m going to tell you two stories about me that sound like they would be the lie in two truths and a lie.

Do you ever have something happen to you that makes you think, “wow no one would believe this?” Yes? No? Well, it happens to me all the time.

The broken wrists

First, we’re gonna talk about the time I broke both of my wrists. Yes, both of them at one time. My dad did not like those medical bills.

The only picture I have to prove the broken wrist story
The only picture I have of my casts

It was Father’s Day, 2008. My parents had just separated back in March so it was the first Father’s Day with just me and my dad. We went to Gettysburg to look at the monuments. When we were looking for the name of my bunch of greats grandfather, I wasn’t paying attention and fell down three concrete steps head first, my wrists breaking my fall. I was in pain but I didn’t want to go to the hospital yet because I wanted to wait until I got to Cumberland, where my mom was.

Half way there, though, I was in so much discomfort that my dad stopped at the hospital in Hagerstown. When we got there I had to pee but on the account of my in pain wrists I couldn’t go by myself so my dad had to help me. I was only nine at the time, thankfully. While we were talking to the nurse to check in, I was so emotional that I told my mom over the phone that, “if I don’t make it I want you to know I love you.” They all told me I was being silly and that I wasn’t going to die. Yeah, I didn’t believe that at the time but since I’m writing this today I guess I did make it. So, summer 2008 was spent with purple and red, because they were out of pink, casts on my arms. Fun times.

Sleep walking stories

the dresser from the sleep walking stories
This is what the dresser looked like

When I was in elementary school, I went through a period of time where I moved in my sleep. Not just tossing and turning, no I tossed and turned my way out of bed. I have many stories of waking up and being in the dining room or hallway but the best one is when I moved a dresser. Yes, a dresser. I woke up in the middle of the night and realized I was standing up and holding my dresser that I managed to turn around. Not knowing what to do, I decided to just get back in bed and wait till morning.

When I did wake up, and try to flip the dresser around, I discovered that I couldn’t lift it. Now, to this day, even over ten years later, my mom jokes that I get super strength in my sleep and every time we move it should be in the middle of the night so I can carry the big things. Another time I woke up and I had my TV in my arms, lifting it off of the entertainment stand that was in my room. At the time, I had a box TV. What was wrong with me?

Do you believe me? Are the stories just too outrageous to be made up? My parents can testify that I always kept things interesting. Still do.

Does any one have any stories that sound fake but are true? Let me know! Gonna go move my book shelf in my sleep now!

Adventures of Milo

As I’m writing this Milo is asleep in his cage. Thankfully. I wouldn’t be able to focus on this if he was up and walking around. You see, my four year old knows how to open doors. Any four year old human you’d accept to be able to open doors. But a cat? Yeah, he’s something. This is the adventures of Milo

It’s surprising when I say that Milo can open doors. I was surprised the first time he did it, too. He’s able to stretch his body and pull down on the door handle. It opens just enough that he can slip through it. The way my dorm is set up he doesn’t get out of my actual room but if I’m not careful he can escape my room and go to my suitemates.

One thing that people who hate cats say is they’re boring and all they do is sleep. Any cat owner knows that they may sleep a lot but they’re also unpredictable. I could write a children’s series about the adventures of my black fat cat.

Scene one would be the first month we had him. My mom had made a pizza and left half of it on the stove, forgetting that we now had an animal that can jump on counters. She comes out to the kitchen to get another slice when she sees Milo licking the pizza clean. All that was left was some sauce and bread.

Next is the time he stole a chicken wing out of my step dad’s hand. My step dad was in the dining room eating wings and got distracted watching tv. In comes Milo who grabbed it out of his hands.

Then the time my mom accidently left the basement door open and he snuck out in the rain. He came back up stairs and my step dad said, “why is he all wet?” We discovered that he got out.

Scene four is the time he got on our kitchen island and rang the bell that hangs above it.

The time we left him downstairs by him self for one second and came back to find him eating my grandma’s plant. She was maaaaddd.

Next is Milo chasing a grass hopper in the grass.

Scene seven would be the time he was so scared of thunder he ran all over the house and tried to find a place to hide.

Scene eight would be the times he eats ice cream. Not from a spoon, or my finger. No, my crazy boy wants the ice cream to be put on his fur to lick off of it.

And the list goes on.

And those were the adventures of Milo! Any stories of a crazy cat? Let me know below!

The Cat on the Leash

The Cat in the Hat

The Cat in the Hat is a legendary story. Every little kid reads the blue and white book. But what if I told you there is an even better story about a cat? Such as, instead of a cat in a hat, it’s a leash on a cat?

Yes, I, Samantha H Summers, born in the great year of 99, walk my cat on a leash. Outside.

Since 2018, the spring of my freshman year of college, I have walked him outside the dorms.

Common phrases I hear

  • “Woah, is that a cat?”
  • “I thought that was a dog.”
  • “Wow that’s a big/fat cat.”
  • “I’ve never seen a cat on a leash before.”
  • “Was it hard to teach him to walk on the leash?”

And many more. I love that my fat black cat on his blue leash that is meant for dogs catches people off guard.

Cat on leash

Today, I will answer those questions.

Yes, that is a cat. No, it is not a dog. Yes, he is a big/fat cat. He’s long though so his fat is equally distributed. Cats on leashes aren’t any where near as mainstream as dogs on leashes (or cats in hats) but people do walk their cats. Most just let them roam outside on their own but a leash can be beneficial especially when you don’t have a fenced in yard. And finally, no, it wasn’t hard to teach him to walk with it on. The first day he was confused on what he was supposed to do so I had to drag him around. But after a while he got used to it and now loves it.

Do you have a cat you walk on a leash? Do you get the weird looks?

To be fair, a lot of people love when they see Milo on his leash. They say it makes them smile and that’s what I want my fat cat on his blue leash to do. To hear more about Milo’s adventures, check out Adventures of Milo.

Top Ten TV Shows

Today I am going to talk about TV shows. Ahhh, TV. One of my first loves and obsessions. I can track what was going on in my life by what TV shows I was obsessed with at the time. Let’s list some of them!

Joey from friends.

1. Friends

My obsession with Friends started when I was just a little girl. I was born in 99, well into the ten year run of the sitcom. My parents loved watching it so I was introduced to it young. I remember watching the season eight finale, when Rachel had her baby, live. I got the tenth season on DVD for Christmas when I was five or six. It will forever be my comfort sitcom.

Sonny from Sonny With a Chance

2. Sonny With a Chance

Ahhhh, Sonny With a Chance. My first Disney Channel obsession. And the first TV show to let me down. I’ll never forgive Demi Lovato for going to rehab and not filming season three. Now I’ll never know if Sonny and Chad got back together. Le sigh. I can still quote every episode. I had a problem as a ten year old.

3. Pretty Little Liars

The Pretty Little Liars reacting to a text

I remember the first time I watched Pretty Little Liars. It was the summer before sixth grade and I was home alone. I flipped through the channels and stopped on what was still ABC Family. I watched the latter half of season one and the premiere of season two. Loved it so much I made my dad buy me the first season on DVD. The first three seasons we everything to me. Sadly, the show got bad after awhile but I will forever hold the first seasons in my heart.

Ally hugging Austin in Austin and Ally

4. Austin & Ally

My second Disney channel obsession! The show reminds me a lot of Sonny With a Chance and it could be the reason I liked it at the beginning. But after a while it became it’s own thing and is another comfort show for me.

Blair Waldorf eating a macaron.

5. Gossip Girl

Now we have one of the biggest obsessions. I went to FYE and they had the first season on DVD. The show had already finished airing at the time. I watched the first season and loved it. At the time Netflix wasn’t as popular so I actually had to go out and buy the DVDs. The feeling of waiting for after school to go buy season three is one I’ll never forget. I love this show so much that I’ve visited most of the spots from the TV show when ever I go to NYC. It also got me into Audrey Hepburn and headbands.

Christi from Dance Moms.

6. Dance Moms

My reality TV love! This show makes me happy when I think about it because it was one I watched with my dad. We loved watching it on Saturday nights and making fun of the moms. My dad and I bound over our TV shows and this was one I’ll always have fond memories of.

7. New Girl

Nick, Winston and Schmidt from New Girl.

Another comedy! This is one that is similar to friends. A group of friends live together and experience life and love together. The characters are so well thought out and just amazingly acted. I put it on when ever I just want to relax. I love my comfort characters.

8. Miraculous: The Adventures of Ladybug and Catnoir

Lady bug and Cat Noir

Ah a cartoon that is surprisingly complex. I first heard about this show my freshman year of college. I was in French class and a girl was talking about this cartoon she watches that helps her with her French. It was on Netflix so I thought might as well give it a try. Though I watched it in English so it didn’t help my French but I did love the show. I can’t explain why but there’s something about teenagers being super heroes and saving Paris and having innocent crushes that makes me happy.

Anne hitting Gilbert with her Slate

9. Anne With an E

Now we have my late 1800’s characters. I sadly have never read the Anne of Green Gables show but when I saw this show on Netflix, I had to watch it. I made my Grandma watched it and she also loved it. That’s a glowing recommendation.

10. Lucifer

My current obsession! We love a show that manages to be about the devil but feel like a family drama. I could go on and on about the show but I’m tired and all that truly needs to be said is watch it.

Rory and Lorelai.

Honorable mention because as I was finishing this I forgot about one! I also love Gilmore Girls. I don’t love it as much any more because the Netflix revival ruined the show for me but I will always love Rory Gilmore for giving me inspiration to study.

And those were some of my favorite TV shows! Do we have any in common? Did I inspire you to watch one? Let me know!

The Folklore Book Tag

Today we have another book tag! As mentioned many times on my blog, I love Taylor Swift. I looked for a book tag about her newest album Folklore and found one! It was created by A Whisper of Ink.

And if my wishes came true

It would’ve been you

Taylor Swift

The 1- A book with an ending that left you speechless

  • We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. No spoilers, of course, but this left me speechless because of the direction it took. It would make a great movie.

 I knew you

Tried to change the ending

Peter losing Wendy

Taylor Swift

Cardigan-A book that makes you feel happy and sad all at once

  • Ghosted by J.M. Darhower. I love a good second chance romance and this one fits the bill to a t. I’ve read this three times and it still fills me up with so many emotions.

And in a feud with her neighbor

She stole his dog and dyed it key lime green

Taylor Swift

The Last Great American Dynasty- A book with a fascinating and extremely well-told story

  • Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven. This is book one in a duology about Cassie and Ethan. This second chance story was one of the first one’s I ever read and started my love of second chance romances. This story was my life for a week in the summer of 2016, it left me emotional but full of love.

I think I’ve seen this film before

And I didn’t like the ending

Taylor Swift

Exile- A book you wish you hadn’t read

  • Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. I read this book in the time period where I was buying any young adult book I saw being talked about on YouTube. AKA I was reading books I wasn’t even sure I wanted to. I know I don’t like books about people with illnesses. I read it anyway and I regret it. Because of that book, I make sure I’m only reading what I actually want to.

You had to kill me, but it killed you just the same

Cursing my name

Wishing I stayed

Taylor Swift

My Tears Ricochet- A book that made you cry uncontrollably

  • Letters to Molly by Devney Perry. In the last year or so, I’ve gone through a stage where fictional stories make me cry very easily. Especially stories about people finding their way back to each other after time apart. I finished this one, balling with tissues around my bed, at 3:30 in the morning in July 2019. My dad was getting up for work and I was having chest pains because of my tears. Good times.

I’m still on that tightrope

I’m still trying everything to get you laughing at me

Taylor Swift

Mirror Ball- A book that feels like it was written just for you

  • To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. This book started my love affair with YA books in high school. I related to Lara Jean a lot. And Peter Kavinsky reminded me of the guy I had a crush on which caused me to have unrealistic expectations.

Sweet tea in the summer

Cross my heart, won’t tell no other

Taylor Swift

Seven- A childhood book that makes you feel nostalgic

  • Junie B. Jones by Barbara Park This book series is the first one I stayed up past me bed time to read with a flashlight under the covers. Junie B. Jones Hawaii vacation is what started it all.

And then canceled my plans

Just in case you’d call

Back when I was living for the hope of it all

Taylor Swift

August- A book that reminds you of Summer

  • Beach Read by Emily Henry A book called Beach Read? It has to remind you of summer! Since I didn’t get to go to the actual beach this year, this book helped.

They told me all of my cages were mental

So I got wasted like all my potential

And my words shoot to kill when I’m mad

I have a lot of regrets about that

Taylor Swift

This is Me Trying- A book that deals with loneliness and sadness

Look at this godforsaken mess that you made me

You showed me colors you know

I can’t see with anyone else

Taylor Swift

Illicit Affairs- A book that gave you a book hangover

  • Wait For It by Mariana Zapata I was thinking about these characters for days after I finished it. I got my hair cut and thought of the main character (she was a hair dresser.) I still think about them from time and time and wonder how they are.

Time, curious time

Gave me no compasses, gave me no signs

Were there clues I didn’t see?

Taylor Swift

Invisible String- A book that came into your life at the exact right time

  • The Hating Game by Sally Thorne I read this book right after my grandfather died and it got me out of a major reading slump. It also kickstarted my love for romance novels. I love you Lucy and Josh.

Every time you call me crazy

I get more crazy

What about that?

Taylor Swift

Mad Woman- A book with a female character you adore

Only twenty minutes to sleep

But you dream of some epiphany

Just one single glimpse of relief

To make some sense of what you’ve seen

Taylor Swift

Epiphany- A book that is haunting

She said “James, get in, let’s drive”

Those days turned into nights

Slept next to her but

I dreamt of you all summer long

Taylor Swift

Betty- A book couple that fills you with yearning

All these people think love’s for show

But I would die for you in secret

The devil’s in the details

But you got a friend in me

Taylor Swift

Peace- A book character you’d die for because you love them so much

  • Joshua Templeman by Sally Thorne was my first major book boyfriend. He created romance and I would die for him.

You know I left a part of me back in New York

You knew the hero died, so what’s the movie for?

Taylor Swift

Hoax- A book that you thought you were going to love but didn’t
